Your Adobe Commerce (Marketplace) keys
Your store is first installed using our shared Adobe Marketplace account, but any later updates or paid Adobe Marketplace extensions use your own Adobe Commerce access keys. You add them once in the portal.
This applies to Magento stores. Marketplace access keys are a public and a private key, issued by your Adobe Commerce / Magento Marketplace account.
Why your own keys
Updates and paid extensions pull official packages from the Adobe Commerce Marketplace, which only serves them to an authenticated account. Using your account's keys means they run under your own Marketplace entitlements — the correct, supported way. Until you add your keys, your store's updates and upgrades are paused, and the portal prompts you to add them.
Everyday running of your store doesn't need them.
Where to find your keys
- Sign in to the Adobe Commerce Marketplace with your account.
- Open your account's Access Keys area, under Magento 2.
- If you don't already have a key pair, create one — then copy both the public key and the private key.
Treat the private key like a password: anyone holding the pair can download packages as your account.
Adding them to your store
On your store's Maintenance tab, open Adobe Commerce keys. Opening it checks your store for keys — including keys that were put there some other way — and the badge shows the result: key in store, no key in store, or unchecked until the check has run.
Click Add keys, paste in the public and private keys, and save. Your keys are checked with Adobe the moment you save — if the pair isn't valid, you're told straight away. Saving also places them in your store's own Composer configuration (auth.json), so Composer and Magento's command-line tools inside your store can use them too.
If your store already has a key, you're warned that saving will replace it. Your private key is stored encrypted and is never shown back to you; you'll only ever see a masked version of the public key. Use Replace or Remove whenever you like — removing them pauses updates again until you add new ones.
