Putting your store on your own domain
By default your store's website is served at your …myshopcarts.store address. You can also put it on your own domain — for example shop.example.com or www.example.com — so customers see your brand in the address bar. Your default …myshopcarts.store address keeps working either way.
This is the website side of custom domains. Sending email from your own domain is set up separately — see Sending store email from your own domain.
Adding your domain
Only the account owner can do this, and your store must be running.
- In your portal, open your store, go to the Settings tab, and find Custom domain → Add domain.
- Enter your domain (for example
shop.example.com) and add it. - The portal shows the exact DNS records to add at your domain provider, and a status that starts as pending.
- Add those records at your DNS provider. The portal re-checks automatically and the status flips to active on its own once your records verify — there's nothing else to click.
The DNS records you'll add
Your portal shows the exact records for your domain — copy them from there (some values can change while verification is in progress, so use the live portal, not an old screenshot). You'll add:
- A CNAME record pointing your domain at the address the portal gives you.
- One or two TXT records that prove you own the domain and let your store's HTTPS certificate be issued.
Copy each record exactly — names and values are case- and character-sensitive, and a single typo will stop verification.
What happens after
- Your store's HTTPS certificate is issued automatically once the records verify — you don't manage certificates. This usually takes a few minutes, depending on how quickly your DNS provider publishes the records.
- Once active, your store's address switches to your custom domain. Your old
…myshopcarts.storeaddress keeps working and redirects to the custom domain, so existing links don't break.
Good to know
- Use a subdomain (
shop.orwww.) if you can. The record you add is a CNAME, and standard DNS doesn't allow a CNAME on a bare domain (example.comwith no prefix). To use the bare domain, use your DNS provider's "CNAME flattening" / "ALIAS" feature, or pointwwwat your store and redirect the bare domain towwwat your provider. - One custom domain per store at a time. To change it, remove the current one first.
- Removing it reverts your store to its
…myshopcarts.storeaddress (which never stopped working). You can then delete the DNS records from your provider whenever it suits you. - Adding a website domain doesn't change your email. Your store's From address stays the same unless you separately set up sending email from your own domain.
