Understanding your store's status
Every store in your portal shows a status — a short label telling you where the store is in its life, from being set up, to running, to closing. You'll see it as a small badge next to each store in your list, and again on the store's own page. Hover over the badge and a short explanation appears.
This page explains what each status means, what you can do while a store is in it, and what happens next. If you just want the quick version: running means everything is live and normal; most other statuses are temporary and clear on their own.
Some actions — installing an extension, changing a domain, running maintenance — need your store to be running. While a store is being set up or is otherwise not running, those actions are temporarily unavailable, and the portal tells you so.
Your store is getting ready
These are the normal "on its way" statuses. No action is needed from you — the store moves through them by itself and lands on running. Most setups finish within a few minutes, though a first-time setup can take up to an hour.
- pending — Your store is in the queue and will begin setting up shortly.
- starting — We're setting your store up on a server. This usually takes a few minutes.
- restoring — Your store is being prepared and will be available soon. You'll also see this status when you restore your store from a backup — while it shows, no action is needed, and you can start another restore once it's back online.
- queued — Your store is being prepared and will be online shortly. This is a normal, temporary step — it clears on its own, and there's nothing you need to do.
Your store is live
- running — Your store is live and serving visitors. This is the healthy, everyday status, and the one most store actions require. For traffic and health details while a store is running, see Monitoring your store.
- migrating — Your store is moving to a fresh server. It stays online the whole time, with only a brief pause during your maintenance window. No action is needed.
Checkout wasn't finished
- pending_payment — Checkout wasn't completed, so the store hasn't started yet. Finish payment to begin setting up your store. See Creating your store for the setup steps.
Your store is closing or closed
When you close a store, it moves through these statuses. Your data is kept for a grace period first, so a closed store can be reopened until that period ends. See Closing and reopening a store for how closing, the grace period, and reopening work.
- suspended — Your store is being closed and taken offline. Once that's done, you can reopen it during the grace period.
- cancelling — Your store is closed. Its data is kept for a grace period, so you can still reopen it.
- cancelled — Your store is closed and its data has been removed.
Something needs attention
These are uncommon. If you see one, the copy tells you whether to wait or to reach out.
- suspension_failed — Closing your store ran into an issue. Our team is looking into it — contact support if it persists.
- unrecoverable — This store couldn't be set up. Please contact support.
If a status ever stays put far longer than you'd expect, or you see one not listed here, contact support and we'll take a look. For the actions available on a running store — maintenance mode, restarting, and more — see Store controls.
