How your store sends email

Your store sends email on its own from the moment it's set up — there's nothing to configure to start sending.

What it sends, and from where

Your store sends transactional email: order confirmations, invoices, shipping updates, password resets, and sign-in (two-factor) codes. By default these go out from a no-reply address on your store's default web address — [email protected] — which is set up and verified for you automatically. As soon as your store is running, its email works.

Making it your own (optional)

A few things you can change when you're ready:

  • Send from your own domain. Swap the default no-reply address for a branded one like [email protected], so your mail matches your brand and lands more reliably in inboxes. See Sending store email from your own domain.
  • Use your own mail server. Route your store's email through your own outgoing (SMTP) server instead of ours. ⚠️ Switching stops your store's email immediately until you've entered your mail-server details in your store's admin — so set those up first, or messages sent in between are lost.
  • Keep an eye on your allowance. Each plan includes a monthly email allowance, and you can add more if you need it. See Your monthly email allowance.

Good to know

  • The default no-reply address is for outbound notifications only — it can't receive replies. If you want customers to be able to reply, set up sending from your own domain and use an address you monitor.
  • Everything your store sends counts toward your monthly email allowance.
