Changing your plan

You can move your store to a bigger or smaller plan at any time from the portal — you're not locked into the plan you started on.

What a plan sets

Your plan sets your store's size and allowances:

  • Processing power (CPU) and memory — how much traffic and how many background jobs your store handles comfortably.
  • Monthly email allowance — how many emails your store can send each month (see Your monthly email allowance).
  • Your monthly price.

Our current plans include the same storage, so moving between them changes your store's performance headroom and email allowance — not its storage, its data, or its Magento version.

Where plans differ in storage, two rules apply:

  • A plan with less storage than your store has can't be chosen — storage can't be made smaller after a store is created. The portal still lists it, greyed out, with the reason. To move down, export your store's data, create a new store on the smaller plan and import it there — that works if the data you're actually using fits. Contact support and we'll help.
  • A plan with more storage is a one-way move. Afterwards, plans with less storage can't be selected from your dashboard. The portal warns you and asks you to tick an acknowledgement before it schedules the change.

Your plan and your Magento version are independent — any plan runs any supported version, and changing one never changes the other. See Supported Magento versions.

Changing plan

Open your store's Settings tab and use Change plan (only the account owner can change a plan, and the store must be running). Pick a larger plan for more headroom, or a smaller one to trim costs, then click Upgrade plan or Change plan to confirm.

  • Your subscription updates automatically, prorated. Moving up, you're charged the difference for the rest of this month straight away. Moving down, the unused part of this month is credited against your next invoice. Either way your next invoice shows the new price.
  • Everything on your store is preserved — products, orders, customers, settings, extensions, themes, and your Magento version all carry over unchanged.

When it takes effect

A plan change is a planned change, not an instant one. It's applied during your store's maintenance window, so you choose when it happens — set your window on the Settings tab (see Your maintenance window).

When it runs:

  1. A fresh backup of your store is taken first.
  2. Your store is briefly offline — typically 15–20 minutes — while it moves to the new size.
  3. It comes back online on the new plan, with all your data and settings intact.

Because the change runs in your maintenance window rather than the moment you click, pick a low-traffic window for it. If a store is struggling right now, a bigger plan isn't an instant fix — and if the real cause is a slow query, a missing index, or a misbehaving extension, more resources won't resolve it. Look at the Monitoring tab first to understand what's actually constrained.
